The text on the back says:
Overlooking Gateshead this contemporary sculpture was designed by the artist Anthony Gormley in 1998. The shape of the body was modelled on the artist and the wings are angled slightly forward. This was done to create "a sense of embrace". Built in 3 parts using weather resistant steel it was pieced together on site. A man sized maquette was made as part of the design process. It sold at auction in 2008 for two million pounds. This was twice the price of the actual sculpture. The Angel has now become an icon for the North East of England.
David Holliday is a professional watercolour artist based in Northumberland. His paintings range from townscapes to wide open beaches, and from moody landscapes to puffins and pigeon houses.
